Keeping It Classy | White After Labor Day | Charlotte NC Photographer
Have you ever heard that rules are meant to be broken? I love this expression (when it's used within reason) and I think it can definitely be applied to a rule that we will hear over and over again in a few weeks. It may be hard to tell with how hot it has been, but as sad as it is to say, summer is coming to an end. The day that marks the end of summer for most people is labor day and it is approaching quickly. I love Labor Day! It means a day of pool parties and fun outside with the family! What I don't love is the silly rule that you can not wear white after Labor Day. White is great for keeping you cool in the hotter months but why can't you wear it in the fall too?
For a quick history lesson, this rule became harshly enforced way back when to separate people who had old money from people with new money (this craziness isn't made up). You could have the most expensive dress in the world but if it was white in late September, the "old money" type wouldn't give you the time of day. I'm pretty sure now that its 2014 we're past that, for the most part, so I fully support breaking out that white blouse in October.
However, while I am all for a little rule breaking, like everything in life it should be handled in moderation. White is still a very summery color and you could look a little off in a white sundress and flip flops in October. Thats why this week's Keeping It Classy is all about how to style white in the fall. It is so easy to do once you pair your white with fall colors (you can see my obsession with jewel tones here and here) and fall staples like boots and sweaters.
Take a look at these awesome examples of how to wear white After Labor Day!
Native american inspired pieces are huge this fall. Incorporate them with your favorite white accessories and cardigan.
The white bag is a hard look to pull off in the fall but if it has leather accents it can be a great transition piece as the leaves start to change.
Finally, you don't have to put away that white blouse if you pair it with burgundy and a great riding boot.
White CAN be worn after Labor Day, you just have to remember to Keep It Classy.
