Keeping It Classy | Anatomy of a Senior Portrait Session | Charlotte NC Photographer

There is something really special about senior portrait photography. Maybe it's that seniors tend to have young and carefree spirits, or maybe it's that they are really enjoying this time in their life. It is probably a little bit of both, but mostly being able to get to know someone who still has endless hopes and dreams yet to be achieved is what makes photographing a senior so special. You can really experience what inspires these young people and what they are passionate about just in one photography session. I LOVE getting to know my seniors, but I think it's important that I don't just know who they are but that their photos reflect who they are as well. This can really be accomplished in what you decide to bring in your wardrobe, so this Keeping It Classy post is all about seniors! These photos really should represent who you are in this moment. That being said, this is not and excuse for you to bear all of your skin in tiny outfits because you are proud of your 17 year old figure (; You still want to be proud of these photos a long time from now. But! you should wear things that represent you and you should definitely bring things to show off who you are as well.

It can sometimes be a good idea to have a more casual look and a dressy look during your senior portrait session to add variety. For your casual look, consider something young and playful. If it moves well, it photographs well! Also, as I mentioned in the Anatomy of an Engagement Session post, hats are great for playing around with in photos!

As I said before, it is really great for seniors to incorporate things that represent them and their interest. Consider bringing props that show what you love during this time in your life. It might be a guitar or it might be your favorite book, the choices are endless.

As your looks become dressier, remember to still be you! If you are more of a laid back senior you don't necessarily have to get dressed up to the nines. Flowy skirts and fun jewelry can accomplish both a laid back attitude as well as fanciness.

Now you can go into your closet a pick out your senior portrait session outfits! Just remember to make sure they are fun, move well, and most importantly.... REPRESENT YOU!
