My Journey and Purpose | Charlotte NC Photographer

As we move through life's experiences we build ourselves.  We grow, change, make mistakes, have successes, and become the person we were meant to be.  Ever since starting my photography business in 2009 I have done quite a bit of soul searching.  I have photographed a variety of genres, worked with a variety of industry professionals, and have failed in every single way possible.  For quite a bit of time I have been searching for my exact purpose in this business.  Both in the photography business and the small business world in general.  While I truly know that I will forever be growing, learning, and changing, I have finally come to the conclusion of my purpose.  (cue heart racing and teary eyes) Over the past 5 years in business my biggest soul searching was in the last 2 years.  I had great success both in the wedding industry and in the senior portrait industry.  So I officially deemed myself a wedding and senior portrait photographer and kept plugging along.  Then somewhere in between all of these weddings, seniors, photography workshops, and industry meet-ups I started to have stronger desires with my business. I was being influenced by some of the best photographers and business women in the industry. It was as if all of these people had been perfectly placed in my path.

Through all of that I had developed the desire to teach other photographers, mentor young teens, and build a side of my business that would change and influence.  Big dreams, right?

Yup, right.

These desires literally stopped me in my tracks and took my breath away.  If you think I am exaggerating ask my husband.  He was my listening ear through all of this.

I had prayed about this for months.  I knew I really needed guidance from the Lord.  I needed him to show me the way, lay out the path he wanted me to take.

(Sometime soon I will most definitely share with you how he showed me the path.  It's incredibly beautiful and hopefully can lead others to inspire trust in him.)

Once I heard back from him (yes, I definitely consider these to be our conversations) I just shook my head, took a deep breath, and trusted that this was where I needed to go.

I know without a doubt that my purpose is to serve through photography, teach, and build strong genuine relationships with others.  Gosh, let me tell you, that one sentence doesn't even sum up all of my hearts desires. It goes way deeper and I am just so excited to begin this transformation and hopefully share in the journey with everyone.

So what can I share now?  What can you most definitely expect? Well here are three things I can guarantee ..

  • More detailed Blog Posts!  While I do not know everything, I know what I love and I know what has worked for me!  I would love to share these things with you!
  • Opportunities to Learn! I might sound like a broken record, but I do not know everything.  However, I have learned so much in the past few years that has driven my business to the success I am seeing today.  I would love to teach, inspire, or encourage others to live out their dreams!
  • Fun!  I plan to have a little more fun through social media!  I want to interact more and get connected with all my friends and clients through instagram, twitter, and beyond!

While more details will be forthcoming you can definitely expect some HINTS to be dropped from now until my "graduation." You may also see some subtle changes over the next couple of months.  I am just so thankful to have you there with me and your support means the world!

Thank you to Katelyn James for capturing this portrait of me.

I just know that I will need to dedicate a future post solely to you Katelyn, but until then, Thank you for inspiring me to move forward with my heart and passion.
